With a welcoming village atmosphere, The Suffolks set around the mid-19th century Suffolk Square is in the heart of Cheltenham’s chic, bohemian Montpellier district.
Named after the Earl of Suffolk, who briefly owned the area from 1808. The square contains predominantly late Georgian and early Victorian villas and terraced houses that give a distinctive identity to the area.
It has recently been described as “the Notting Hill of Cheltenham” and is home to established and new range of interesting restaurants, cafes and deli’s, while a variety of antique and interior shops and a range of boutiques including vintage clothing, giftware, jewelry make this area of Cheltenham a shoppers paradise.

Many consider these streets to be the true artisan area of Cheltenham, with many of the creative professions, such as landscape designers, interior designers, silversmiths and photographers, choosing to locate here away from the bustle of the town centre.

The Suffolks Annual Street Fair, held every Bank Holiday Monday in May, is another famous event with over 100 stalls selling selling everything from plants to picture frames, to leather goods, paintings, tapas, homemade ice-cream and more. There’s a children’s area with inflatable fun, mini rides, face painting and more. Live music will go on throughout the day on the main stage whilst street entertainers will roam the area.
There are now four Sunday Markets a year. In 2017 they are on Sunday 30th April, 30th July, 27th August & 29th October. The markets reflect the area, the stall holders are carefully selected with an emphasis on Designers & Makers, Arts & Craft, Food, Vintage, Street Food and New Entrepreneurs. April’s Sunday Market will also have Jazz Fringe – Jazz in the street and the bars and restaurants.
